Palmerton Camera Club

Remember back in the days of film that two kinds of color film were available – daylight and tungsten.

Daylight film was color balanced to capture ‘true’ colors (the way we perceive them) under daylight or flash.

Tungsten film was designed to remove the yellow tint of tungsten light and record colors close to ‘true’.  This

meant changing film to match the light source.  In digital we can do this with white balance.  Most of the time

shooting on AWB (auto white balance) will do the trick.  But if you want more precise color renditions you

should use one of the pre-set white balance options in your camera.  Most cameras have settings for sunlight,

cloudy skies, open shade, tungsten, and fluorescent light.  Some have even more.  Play with them.  Get creative

by mismatching the white balance and the light source.  You may get some interesting results.
